September 20th, 2019: Surprising Simon Crahan With A Custom Snare Dedicated To His Sister

SJC Family Simon Crahan, son of percussionist Shawn Crahan of Slipknot, wanted to create a snare dedicated to his sister Gabrielle following her passing earlier this year. He reached out to us looking for a 13" maple shell in a white stain splattered purple paint splatter (same purple his current kit is finished in). In addition, Simon also wanted to have the roman numerals of Gabrielle’s birth/death dates painted on the and custom badge featuring a picture of his sister. To tie it all together, he'd choose brass hardware to really make it a centerpiece. Simon had been in touch with Zach during the process of its crafting but when Jay Weinberg of Slipknot gave us the heads up that he and Simon would be visiting, we made sure the snare was ready!

Cris, our graphic designer, designed the custom badge while Lou got to work on the shell. Once the badge art was good to go, Lou was able to craft the actual badge and we sent everything over to Tom who finished the assembly in time for the visit. Now it was time to plan the big reveal!

During a drum session in our studio, we surprised Simon with the snare. Simon was speechless and incredibly thankful! He thought the snare was still in the middle of production so needless to say, he was truly shocked to see the full build right before his eyes. He even got to play it right then and there!
