The Balvenie Crafted Collection Snare Drums

      • by Zach Matook

9/21/18 - The Balvenie Crafted Collection Snare Drums

We teamed up with The Balvenie Single Malt Scotch Whisky, the Council of Fashion Designers of America Foundation and luxury retailer Todd Snyder to build some custom, handcrafted snares for the first-ever Crafted Collection – a curated series of handcrafted items incorporating wood from The Balvenie Distillery in Dufftown, Scotland. Just in time for holiday gifting, the snares will be available for purchase at Todd Snyder’s New York flagship store on the corner of Madison Square Park from October 1st through November 30th, and online at toddsnyder.com/craftedcollection through the end of the year.

We had originally worked with The Balvenie through the online series "Raw Craft" featuring Anthony Bourdain and decided to keep this relationship alive with this collection. Watch the full episode here!

The Balvenie snare drums are made from fir timbers, which housed the aged whisky, and were handcrafted by our own Louie Scalzo - they will sell for $1500

Louie Scalzo is a musician, artist, Master Carpenter and drum builder from Enfield, CT who started playing drums in 1977 as a young child and has never stopped playing. Starting in the early 90's in the music sales and recording industry, Louie became a well-rounded recording engineer, as well as a songwriter with some minor producing credits. Playing in bands nationally and internationally, he has become a very accomplished stage entertainer. In the late 1990's Louie saw creative opportunity in the carpentry business, with a once-in-a-lifetime mentorship by the late, great craftsman, Richard Abalan. At first working as a fine-finish carpenter and furniture builder, he later seized the chance to move into the drum manufacturing business, where he found his true passion.
